BrainReport is....

a superset of scientific information, relevant to knowledge-intensive clinical, educational, political, judicial, and sociocultural advancement.

FOCUS

BrainReport centralizes essential resources in neuroscience—resources that drive scientific education, neuroclinical applications, forensic arguments, legislative enactments, sociocultural persuasions, and political actions. Derived from a host of neuroscientific, cognitive, behavioral, and related disciplines, BrainReport is an evolving portal for accessing scientific information.

Users are invited to contribute suggestions for content. Please contact us via email before submitting documents.

ORGANIZATION

The home page in BrainReport provides immediate information or links to current news in neuroscience. A comprehensive list of relevant neuroscience news sources that provides RSS feeds supplies the user with the most up-to-date research available. Changes to this content occurs daily and occasionally hourly.

Users may add the RSS feeds identified on the home page to their own RSS readers or to Internet Explorer 7 for easy accessibility, whether signed in to BrainReport or not.

All main pages in the site (those linked through the left navigation bar) contain links to glossary-style resources (on the right side of the page) for access to encyclopedias, references, libraries, and search engines.

The journals page lists print and online sources for peer-reviewed research and theory in neuroscience. These resources provide current publication and archives and are useful for perusal prior to launching a formal topical literature search.

The topics page contains accumulating documents related to the neuroscience topics listed on that page. Documents may include annotated bibliographies, links to articles published elsewhere, book reviews, and original papers.

The tao of neuroscience offers resources for the "big picture" and sociocultural impact of neuroscience. Contents focus on the unity of brain-and-mind, philosophical musings about where neuroscience is taking the culture, and issues of neuroethics. As neuroscience knowledge advances at a frenetic pace, it is essential that it be couched within a spectrum of responsible and thoughtful application.

Continuing education resources are identified and posted that users may access directly.

The BrainReport classroom page contains links to documents and resources used in neuroscience courses. Content here is generic and not necessarily tied to a specific course. However, some specific courses will have private (password-protected) content for enrolled students.

USE

As a centralized portal for learning, BrainReport is dynamic and evolving. The main pages are organized in a somewhat hierarchical fashion. Current, most immediately updated information appears on the first page. Then, links to nonspecific resources published by relevant organizations are found on the journals page. The home and journals pages provide a broad scope view of neuroscience. Topics pages contain resources in specific areas of neuroscience knowlege and application. To maintain sight of the "big picture", drawing on the analogy of ancient Chinese wisdom, tao aims to keep the knowledge grounded and responsible. Finally, the continuing education and classroom pages provide directions and resources for further knowledge acquisition.

BrainReport is free, evolving, and a contribution toward the advancement, sharing, and application of sound, scientific, and responsible knowledge about brain and behavior.
